McGrath Pond & Salmon Lake Association (MPSLA)
The purpose of the McGrath Pond & Salmon Lake Association is to preserve and protect the natural character, enhance the water quality and promote responsible use of the lakes for the benefit of all. We are a dedicated group of volunteers committed to preserving, protecting and enhancing our lakes. As an advisory group, MPSL Association is a resource for lake dwellers and lake lovers.

What does the McGrath Pond & Salmon Lake Association (MPSLA) do with membership dues?
- Courtesy Boat Inspections to prevent Invasive Plant Infestation including Milfoil;
- Youth Conservation Corps sponsorship to help prevent phosphorous runoff into the lakes;
- Increase education and communication via print and electronic media;
- Continued maintenance of public boat landing;
- Water quality testing;
- Year-round stewardship of public land at the Narrows Preserve;
- Membership in Maine Lakes Society; and affiliation with Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance (BRCA).
- MPSLA has no paid staff and all its activities are done by volunteers.

All residents and visitors of Oakland benefit from the quality of place, economic opportunities, recreational offerings and engaging environment provided by maintenance and protection of our lakes’ water quality.

Ever wonder why the water level goes up & down in our Lakes?
Between Salmon Lake and Great Pond is a dam that controls flow of water from Salmon Lake into Great pond. The dam is owned and regulated by the Belgrade Area Dams Committee. The water level changes seasonally according to a specific protocol. In the summer the water level is drawn down a little if a big rainstorm is forecast.
